{review & giveaway} Bunny’s First Spring

I love this book.

There isn’t any other way to start this post. I just totally love this book. Sally Lloyd-Jones, the acclaimed author of the Jesus Storybook Bible, has written a wonderful new story.  Before I get any further into my gushing, here is some more information about Bunny’s First Spring.

BunnysFirstSpring When a bunny is born in spring, he sees the world as green and new and full of hope.  But as the seasons change, the bunny worries that the earth may be dying.  In bestselling author’s Sally Lloyd-Jones’ latest picture book celebrating the Easter season and rebirth, nature speaks to the bunny, assuring him of something more. Award-winning artist David McPhail’s whimsical illustrations reflect the beauty of the world around us as Lloyd-Jones’ inspirational text prompts readers to celebrate the changing seasons and the miracle of nature’s rebirth. {source}

Why have I fallen in love with this children’s book? It’s just beautiful! The illustrations are charming and pretty, with details that had us stopping on each page so my four year old could point something out to me. The story is beautiful, like poetry. You feel the emotion and change in Bunny’s experiences as the seasons move along. And the end is triumphant, as it should be.

Maybe you’re thinking that a story about spring should have more to do with the resurrection of Jesus. Well, maybe. But I think young children learn so well from object lessons. The glory of summer, the beautiful fading of autumn, the quiet death of winter, the victorious emergence of  spring. Even in the dead of winter, there is new life beneath the surface.

Sound familiar to anyone? The beauty of the Gospel is that you can find whisperings of it everywhere. Because He is the creator of everything! His signature is all over creation. This seemingly simple children’s story demonstrates that.

This beautiful story pulled all of my daughters in the first night I read it. Okay so my thirteen year old was just wondering what we were doing …  but she stuck around to hear the end of the story. It has moved to the front of the line in our house. We adore this book. And I’m so happy to have a copy to give away to one reader!
