Dirty dishes overflow the sink. Your two youngest kids just began their third round of hand-to-hand combat today. And now the washing machine won’t start. Visions of putting a home-cooked meal in the oven while the family plays happily in the living room evaporate amid screaming, complaining, and slammed doors-and that’s not even counting what the children are doing. Lisa Pennington knows what those days are like. And she knows that even in the hard times you can find immense joy. In Mama Needs a Do-Over, Lisa offers hopeful, practical ideas for resetting your family’s mood in the toughest moments. She also dives deep into your mother’s heart to show you the power you have to turn those challenges into gifts. A little fun, a new perspective, and a go-to list for those do-over days, and you might just find joy in all those dirty dishes after all!

Does any of that sound like a day you’ve had? C’mon now, be honest. We have all had our share of bad days and temper tantrums. As much as we really want our days to be full of peace and joy – we have to contend with our flesh, our selfishness, our sin nature, and that’s all before we get out of bed!

Lisa Pennington gets it. A mom of 9, Lisa shares an honest and relatable view of life for a Christian mom. Exhausting at times and exhilarating at others – her stories and lessons through Mama Needs A Do-Over are ones that every mom can understand. From budget discussions with the husband, to making the most out of even the worst days – Mama Needs A Do-Over is a great book for moms at all stages of life.

One thing I really love about Mama Needs A Do-Over is the homework. What?! I’m weird, okay? At the end of each chapter, Lisa has written three action steps. Writing your strengths, things you want to do over, identifying yesterday’s problems and steps to make that situation more joyful when it arises again…They are all practical, thought provoking steps to help the reader really process their choices and actions.

Mama Needs A Do-Over is such a great book. I know I say that a lot but I’m blessed to be able to choose books to review that I think I’ll enjoy reading. And I really think that you, dear readers, would enjoy this book as well! It will be great for long winter days, and we know we have lots more of those coming. At least, here in the northeast we do!

  1. This sounds like a great book- I often feel overwhelmed by it all! I’ve probably read about 10 books this year, due to not being able to stay awake at night long enough to read much!!

  2. I have not read a single ‘for me’ book all year and this sounds like a great one! We have read 4 history textbooks and 6 novels/historical books with them. Read aloud time is a favorite here.
