{review & giveaway} Let It Be Jesus

This giveaway is now closed. The winner was comment #5 – Heather! Thanks to all who entered!

Once upon a time, I lived and breathed music. I sang, played instruments, recorded my favorite songs off the radio – yes, I’m that old – and re-mixed them with other favorite songs. I love music. When I turned my life over to Jesus, my love of music continued and morphed into a love for worship. While my life now may not allow me the time and freedom to sing and play instruments any longer, I can play music all through my house – and I do! So when this review came through my inbox to get the new Christ Nockels album Let It Be Jesus pre-release, how could I say no?!

I love Christy Nockels. And I love worship. So this one may not have much to do with homeschooling but let me tell you, music has a lot to do with my mothering. It looks something like this:

“Mom! She opened my door without knocking again and I’m going to kill her now” (imagine the noise of fighting cats) This makes me want to either knock their blonde heads together or run away and leave them to duke it out. This also makes me feel like the worst mom ever. I must be failing if they can’t even get along. But then I hear –

I am not alone. There’s a stone I’m built on…. So I rest my hope on the Rock of the Ages.

Ah. Yes. My hope is not in how well my children behave but in Jesus. He will never leave me, even when the children sound like fighting cats. Or like this:

“Mom! How come we never do anything fun? The _____ are doing ______ and we just sit here. It’s not fair!” Hmm…I think I may have heard some rumblings like this in my own mind. That little green monster is a tricky one. But drifting in from the speakers, I hear –

If you never did another thing for me, it will always be enough that You set me free, always be enough that you gave Your life.

When you stop to consider what Jesus sacrificed for you and me, suddenly the lack of fun activities doesn’t seem so bad. So you see, music does help my mothering. It runs through my mind and embeds itself in my soul. It encourages me and reminds me to seek Him. And Christy Nockels does this beautifully – not just for moms or for women but for everyone that seeks to find the Lord. And this new album is amazing.
